Conferences

Law Seminars International is sponsoring a blog conference called The First Comprehensive Conference On Blog Law & Blogging for Lawyers, scheduled for April 20 & 21, 2006 at the Pan Pacific Hotel in San Francisco, California.

On the agenda: Blog Technology, Blogging in the Corporate World, Blogging’s Relationship with the Broader Cyber World, Real-World Report from Some Leading Blawgers, etc. From the site:

Blogs (short for “Web logs”) are fomenting a wide variety of legal issues. Legal blogging, also known as “blawging,” has become fully mainstream. No longer just for a few hip IP lawyers or a forum for law firm gossip, blogs are quickly replacing conventional Web sites as the key marketing tool for large and small firms alike to increase their visibility via the Internet. At the same time, a growing number of attorneys are being engaged to represent clients with problems arising from blogs. From employment issues to disputes over who owns the content, the legal consequences of blogging are expanding proportionately with the number of blogs — which by one estimate are increasing at a rate of 70,000 per day. As the first comprehensive CLE conference to look at blogging both as a marketing tool for attorneys and as a legal gray area, this program offers attendees an extraordinary opportunity to get tips from the nation’s top experts on starting a legal blog for their firms and making their existing blogs more effective, to hear the current status of case law directly from those who are involved, and to gain the insights of pioneers in the evolving world of blogging.

BlogOn’s “The Business of Social Media” conference is history, and the blog is being updated. I recommend you download and read a paper on corporate blogging called Blogging in the Enterprise (PDF).

Previous post: BlogOn 2005

BlogOn is a two-day conference on blogs as social media, and it’s just about over. From the site:

Learn how to use social media to create more meaningful conversations with your customers from leading experts including Seth Godin, David Weinberger, Gil Schwartz, Jackie Huba, Jeff Jarvis and Steve Rubel. Plus, hear how major companies such as AOL, Chrysler, ESPN, McDonald’s, SIRIUS Satellite Radio, Sprint, Sun Microsystems, Unilever and Yahoo! are using social media for business advantage….

Social media is changing the way companies interact with customers and employees. The challenge is how to keep abreast of developments: What applications are emerging? Which companies are breaking new ground? When and how should you employ these new technologies?

BlogOn 2005 will answer these questions, and more! Through thoughtful analysis, candid conversations and innovative product previews, you will gain invaluable insights that will help you use social media effectively.

Sounds very informative and cutting edge, and I hope to be a panelist for BlogOn 2006. For more information, vist the conference blog.

badgeWhenever I mention blog conferences around non-bloggers, I usually get strange looks. They know what a blog is. What they find unusual is that bloggers travel to meet other bloggers to talk about blogging.

I’ve been to one blog conference so far, and I talked about what it’s like to blog about faith. I’m scheduled to speak on the topic of blogs at two upcoming conferences. As you can tell, I like to discuss various aspects of blogging, and I look forward to the day I’m invited to speak at my first business blog conference.

I won’t be able to attend the Blog Business Summit next month, but God willing, I’ll be there next year.
