Welcome to my business web site. Although it’s incomplete (I’m editing as you read this), I wanted to end the suspense.

The purpose of the business is still evolving, but the bottom line is to help customers prepare their written material and make it the best it can be at affordable rates. I’ll do everything from typing and editing to writing and ghostwriting. Blog consulting will also be a big part of the business. I will consult for businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals. I’ll have a big advertising campaign cooked up in the next couple of weeks.

Back in January I asked readers to help name the business. One reader suggested “La Shawn’s Language Arts.” I liked it but realized my name is strongly associated with my very political and personal blog. I want to keep the two as separate as possible, so I chose, “The Language Artist.” Blogger John designed the header.

By now you’ve noticed that I’ve disabled comments. The purpose is threefold:

  1. The business blog will consist mostly of information useful to other blog consultants, home-based business owners, and customers (present and potential). In addition to the articles I plan to write on those subjects, I’ll link to relevant articles and other business blogs.
  2. Unlike a political blog, a business blog won’t generate much discussion, at least not in the beginning.
  3. As this is my business, I want to keep it separate from my opinion-based site. The last thing I need over here are bored trolls trying to interfere with my livelihood.

Ironically, I’d advise businesses to allow commenting, particularly corporations with product recognition and brand loyalty. Such businesses would have the resources to monitor the comment section and respond accordingly.

Well, that’s just about it. I plan to add more pages and complete the ones I already have. Having a home-based business has been a dream of mine for a long time. In addition to providing services, I want to build this site into a go-to resource for online and home-based businesses, larger companies venturing into blogging, and enterprising bloggers who want to make money doing what they love.

You can navigate through the site by clicking on the header links or this link. Thanks for stopping by. Tell all your friends about The Language Artist! :)
